Fifty years on from Scotland’s first National Landscape Policy Conference, this event offers one of the most significant opportunities in the forthcoming national agenda to review progress, introduce new perspectives over the next fifty years and debate how best to manage future change in Scotland’s landscapes.
Scotland’s landscapes are a key national and international asset, contributing positively to the quality of life and economic livelihood of its people and the iconic experiences of its visitors. Our landscapes as we know them today are facing unprecedented uncertainties due to climate change, invasive tree pestilence, economic impacts affecting farming and forestry practices, windfarms, powerlines, other major infrastructure projects and urban expansion.
To meet these paramount challenges, national policy and practice requires unprecedented and concerted effort, not only to understand the underlying processes of change but also to respond with effective, integrated and sustainable action.
Many thanks to all who attended and contributed to make this Conference happen. The Conference Proceeding and Presentations will be available soon.
